Gazebo Receives Support Letters from Congress

By Clemente

To The Editor:
A lot of readers asked about what U.S. Rep. Frank LoBiondo is doing to urge Gov. Christie to finish the investigation about the gazebo matter. I mailed LoBiondo’s letter for help on Feb. 6. I haven’t heard from him. I thought he may be on vacation, but a few people had told me that they saw pictures of him playing basketball in the newspaper at the Coast Guard facility.
LoBiondo knows that the Coast Guard is etched in glass on the gazebo along with the Army, Navy, Air Force and Marines. In fact he had sent the Coast Guard honor guard for the unveiling of their etched glass panel. He also knows that the Sept. 11 Memorial etched glass panel, that was dedicated Oct. 11, 2001, means a lot to the people of New Jersey and the United States.
I received hundreds of letters and phone calls from members of Congress from all over the United States, including New Jersey, and this is a quote from one of the members of Congress: “Thank you for informing me of the unfortunate situation with your late husband’s gazebo. It is terrible that such a beautiful thing as your husband’s gazebo is caught up in an ugly situation.
“When an official abuses his or her power for either political gain or other selfish reasons, they abandon that trust vested in them by the citizenry. You should not be terrified to death of walking the streets of your neighborhood, or struggling to sleep because of your elected official. Instead, the politician should honor your wishes and concerns and not force you into donating a gazebo you worked so hard to create.”
It has now been over two months since LoBiondo received his letter and he has not contacted me. I am deeply saddened and disappointed in him so I am sending a letter to New Jersey Sens. Frank Lautenberg and Menendez to finish this investigation and bring this nightmare to an end.
