Further Discussion of ‘America’s Reality’

By Tourette

To the Editor:
I enjoyed the editorial, “America’s Reality” in a previous Herald opinion section. It described how America today would be different under a conservative, but it contains some incorrect historical facts. This response isn’t against the author, as I champion diverse viewpoints. However, I wanted to set some of the information straight.
The “radical court could well become even more radical” under a conservative. Clinton and Obama radicalized the court with anti-Constitutionalists like Sodomeyer, Kagen, and Ginsburg. A conservative would likely moderate the radicalized court with those who base their decisions on the Constitution, not activism.
The Supreme Court did not appoint Cheney as president. Cheney was never president. George W. Bush was, and the Supreme Court did not elect him, either. They did, however, decide 7-2 to end selective recounts.
“Didn’t we do things right under FDR, JFK, and even Bill Clinton? Namely a surplus and no wars?” Well, one out of three: JFK. JFK’s policies were far more like Reagan’s than any national democrat alive today, all of whom would attack him if he were alive promoting them now. There was a war under FDR, and it was the only thing that ended a recession exasperated by his big government presidency. Meanwhile, the rest of the world recovered in the early 1930s. Clinton’s budget surplus was only good for the government: it was the result of over taxation and congress spent it before Clinton even left office!
The “economic collapse of 2008-20009 [sic] … Those who fail to remember are doomed to repeat.” It’s actually the economic collapse of 2009-present. Obama’s economic whims have only deepened the recession and economic turmoil in 2014. All economic figures are worse today, except on Wall Street, the recipients of a trillion dollars a year from the federal reserve. The average working person would gladly take the economy of 2008 over 2014. HARP is doing what the democrats have forced the banks to do, which caused the first housing/banking crisis. Those who fail to remember…
“Didn’t the Mideast turmoil begin with the invasion of Iraq?” No. There’s a long history spanning back centuries. Obama worsened the current situation, by arming the Muslim Brotherhood, those who became ISIS, Libyan and Syrian terrorists, and enabled terrorists at every turn. The power they possess now was avoidable.
“There are people who harass and threaten our children on the Southern border.” Yes, but again, the administration armed drug lords (operation Fast & Furious), and enabled them to use our border to make children orphans living under deplorable conditions. To date, the only charitable aid is from MercuryOne.org, who treat these children as our neighbors. These children aren’t here to milk our system; they are victims of leftist political games.
Voters must take the election process seriously and consider the consequences of voting. It will take a bold leader to restore America’s greatness.
