To the Editor:
It is heartening to read of the protest gatherings by students of the Florida High School who witnessed/suffered the trauma of mass murder at their school in February 2018. Adults are supposed to set the example against injustice, but in this case, the young are setting the example.
For the rest of their lives, this horror will remain in the students’ memories. There are not enough words to describe the parents’ loss of their children violently gunned down. The tragedy may fade in the minds of the public, but not for them.
It is imperative that we adults follow the example of the Florida students and rally against the availability of lethal, fast-firing, deadly weapons. Our country has set a shameful record for this violence happening in our schools compared to the rest of the world.
Sadly, the little classmates of the 5- and 6-year-olds who died in their classroom in the Newtown, Conn. massacre five years ago could not rally for their classmates and their heroic teachers.
Any politician who votes against serious control of military-type weapons and background checks must be voted out of office. That is the least that the voting public must do. It is sinful if they do not.
