To the Editor:
Listen to what the Lord says: “He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God?” (Micah 6:1, 8)
There comes a time when God-fearing mortals must “walk the talk.” Unlike so many of our elected “leaders,” I believe this is the time.
Violent speech has led to violent behavior from the White House on down. Enough!
There have been more than 18 school shootings this year; more since the Valentine’s Day massacre in Parkland, Fla.
Are all shooters mentally ill? If so, it is an almost exclusively American malady.
I applaud all attempts to isolate, if not cure, this plague on our nation, from the students at Stoneman Douglas High School to the CEO of Dick’s Sporting Goods. There is no reason why anyone other than the military or law enforcement should own an assault weapon nor should any weapons be sold online or at gun shows without an extensive background check.
What can one isolated mortal do to walk the talk with justice and mercy in the footsteps of our God? Personally, this is a walk I take daily as a follower of Christ, the Prince of peace.
I will take the first step on primary election day and on every election day for the foreseeable future. Candidates who receive a high rating or funding from the NRA will never receive my vote.
This is but one small step for humankind I will take. I encourage all God-fearing mortals to prayerfully go and do likewise.
