To The Editor:
The war on terror is really a war on extremism. It is unfortunate that we have to fight that extremism within our nation as well. All of us are still trying to heal from the tragedy of 9/11 and not live in fear of each other, yet sadly the Dove Outreach Center in Gainsville, Fla. is seeking to divide us even further and has chosen a most sensitive date in our country’s history to do so.
I recognize that the actions of Pastor Terry Jones to burn the Quran are not in line with the true to the teachings of Christianity. In fact, Jones’ actions are the same extreme behavior our nation witnessed by the fanatics who attacked our country on 9/11 in the name of Islam. On a day we should be reflecting and healing, rather than conduct interfaith dialogue that will promote understanding and unity, Jones chooses to create chaos.
As a member of the Ahmadiyya Muslim commu-nity, I am a Muslim and an American for peace who asks Jones to stop hijacking Christianity from its true teachings so that we are all protected from what happens when extremists use faith to terrorize a nation.
