To the Editor:
In light of the recent Letters to the Editor from former and present Dennis Township officials, I thought perhaps I would take this opportunity to afford the readers of your inimitable publication a nonpartisan view of the state of the union here in Dennis Township. Freedom of the press ensures everyone’s right to communicate their opinions either through Spout Offs or other published venues, so now it’s my turn.
I believe that the reason many residents use the Spout Off column to express their opinions is that over the years the Dennis Township Committee has often been unresponsive to written letters and e-mails regarding many issues no matter which political party was currently in the majority. To publically malign these taxpayers as “complainers” or imply that they “should be ashamed of themselves” is both unconstitutional and indisputable evidence of the overall insensitive arrogance prevalent at township hall.
While it is obvious that the aforesaid letters purposefully attempt to discredit the opposing political party in election season, they are also classic examples of business as usual here in Dennis Township. Unfortunately, what is also indisputably evident is that both parties have clearly lost sight of their sworn duty to serve the residents and taxpayers and have digressed, for the most part, to serving their own respective political and personal agendas. Instead of letting the naysayers deny responsibility for such conduct and claim that the other committee has been unresponsive, I say let the public record speak for itself, clearly you will find both parties culpable.
I would like to also address some of the other issues mentioned in the letters, such as not having a noise ordinance in place. The taxpayers put their hard earned tax dollars to work for a noise ordinance to be drafted and introduced a couple of years ago and neither controlling parties has formally addressed it since, resultant in tax dollars wasted.
With respect to the ATV matter, while both parties claim to have done something, the truth is neither have provided a viable solution to the private property matter and both have vilified anyone trying to do so. The genesis of the entire matter stems from the health and safety issues created by multiple ATVs riding at high rates of speed, in circles around houses in communities with three-quarter acre properties. There was never any opposition or ban of ATVs proposed; people are just looking for relief from disrespectful neighbors through an ATV ordinance. Check the public record, neighbors have complained that their babies couldn’t sleep, that they had to keep their doors and windows closed and couldn’t keep their cars or pools clean due to the noise and dust created.
The respective committees have been presented with viable ordinances, which are in place in analogous municipalities, and both have again been unresponsive to those submissions. With respect to the code enforcement issue, look around the township, check the public record; you won’t find much evidence, if any, of code enforcement with or without an enforcement officer.
Please recognize that I believe we live in a wonderful community and with respect to resolving these matters the interference from the palpable partisan politics and personal agendas should not be undermining the health, welfare and safety of the residents of Dennis Township.
