Deaths of Innocents

By James Davis, Avalon

To the Editor:
Trump was right to condemn the killing of innocent children in the horrific chemical attack in Syria. It’s reported that 10 children died in the attack.
In the United States, 301,797 people died as a result of gun violence in the decade ending 2015. Of that number, an average of approximately 1,500 per year was children murdered – a total of some 15,000 young lives destroyed in that 10-year period. The carnage continues to this day. In less than four months of 2017, 1,100 children have been killed or injured.
What does Trump have to say about this slaughter of innocents in the U.S.? Nothing. What is he doing about it? Nothing. In one incident alone a few years ago, 20 children were killed in the Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre – twice as many as died in the chemical attack. Where is Trump’s outrage? He is silent.
