D.C., United Way of Cape May County President on behalf of the Board of Directors

By Farrell

This year has been a financially difficult one for many in our county. It has also been a challenging year for the United Way of Cape May County as we attempt to meet residents’ growing needs with shrinking resources.
But it has also been a rewarding year for us. Although we have less resources and less paid staff, we have found that our volunteers and donors are no less committed to our mission. Together, we are working harder than ever to make lives better for county residents.
We still fund programs that help seniors and those with disabilities live independent lives. We still run a food pantry that feeds hundreds of residents in crisis and guides them toward the tools they need to get back on their feet. We still provide funding for valuable programs that educate youth and provide families with important resources, such as quality childcare, counseling services and domestic violence intervention.
We are able to do these things and more because a legion of volunteers and donors are dedicated to showing up when they are needed. They help at fundraisers like the Rubber Ducky Regatta or the Roar to the Shore Rubber Ducky Ride. They hold food drives and fundraisers. They sort groceries at our food pantry. And they consistently make donations of their own time and money to help their neighbors.
As an all-volunteer board of directors, we work side-by-side with these volunteers, and their commitment to our community reinforces ours. The United Way of Cape May County is committed to being here, helping residents live better lives now and far into the future. We hope our dedication and enthusiasm will motivate others to lend a hand.
Together, we can make a difference.
