To the Editor:
I was driving to work when I heard on a local radio station that Stephen Sweeney proposed a bill to cut school funding for schools in Cape May County, and it was signed by the governor to redistribute the money to Atlantic, Bridgeton and Cumberland Counties instead.
I read several newspaper articles that the Middle Township area is one of the top, fastest growing townships in the state, which means more people, right?
If that’s the situation, won’t that increase the class sizes in our school districts as well and where are our representatives who are supposed to fight for the residents of our area, like our children? They should have the same opportunity as everyone else; a better education.
I read another newspaper article that said that in some of the towns in our area, the annual average income was about $17,000 a year. That’s way below poverty, so raising taxes will hurt a lot of families if their solution is to raise taxes to make up the difference of what had been lost by these cuts.
Can someone please look into this and give the residents who live in Cape May County the truth about what happened, and what can be done to stop this? Why are we allowing this to happen?
Our children depend on us, as the voters of this district, to support our towns. They surely can’t because they don’t vote… yet.
