County Road Needs Upgrades

By Joan Mahon, Villas

To the Editor:
Cape May County freeholders are in charge of county roads and bridge maintenance, as well as the county budget, prosecutor’s office, and health department. Since I776, New Jersey’s first constitution appointed freeholders as county representatives and this is unique to our state. Because of this, senators, congressmen, mayors and city managers have absolutely no jurisdiction over Fulling Mill Road, a deadly and dangerous road that allows commercial traffic, personal vehicles, RVs, bicyclists and pedestrians to maneuver day and night dodging potholes, faded yellow lines, few reflectors and blind turns caused by overgrowth of trees and brush. Located in Lower and Middle townships, this road is in dire need of paving and safety upgrades. I can’t even guess how many years ago this road was paved.
