To the Editor:
Cape May County’s environment, both inland and on the coast, is under attack, and we can do something about it. The clean water we drink, the clean air we breathe and the clear beaches we enjoy are all open targets and we need representation for our voices to be heard.
For example, South Jersey Gas’ proposal to build a pipeline through the protected Pinelands, which is an international biosphere, ignores the Pinelands Commission’s purpose, but the powers that be circumvented the process and no one in government stood up for the Pinelands although the people were very vocal in their opposition to this proposal.
Unfortunately, after attending freeholders’ meetings in the past, although attending citizens spoke up with proof of the negative impact such a pipeline could effect if built, no one on the board stood up for the people against South Jersey Gas and the pipeline issue.
The huge aquifer that the Pinelands encompass is at risk of pollution if B.L. England generating station goes natural gas. This issue will have ramifications well into the future if not dealt with intelligently for the residents of the county.
Danielle Davies and Gregory Wall are an intelligent, educated, experienced and compassionate team who would improve the freeholder board. Their qualifications are right on. Let’s elect them to the freeholder board this November. New blood infuses energy and new ideas for our future.
