Contrasting the Political Parties

By Marie Pratt, Cold Spring

To the Editor:
As we head to the polls in November to elect new leaders, I’d like to correct some misperceptions about the Democratic and the Republican parties.
The Democratic platform protects unrestricted access to abortion, the continued funding for Planned Parenthood, and overturning the Hyde Amendment, which has banned the use of federal money for abortion since 1976. The Republican platform is unashamedly pro-life and supports a Human Life Amendment upholding the sanctity of all life including the unborn, defunding Planned Parenthood, putting a ban on the sale of fetal body parts for use in medical research, codifying the Hyde Amendment and appointing judges to the Supreme Court who support the sanctity of innocent human life.
While the Democratic Party vehemently defends federal funding of Planned Parenthood by claiming that it provides a host of women’s health services, the fact is that over half of Planned Parenthood’s yearly clinic income comes from aborting nearly 330,000 babies annually and almost half of its billion-dollar annual revenue comes from taxpayers. Since over 30 percent of all reported abortions occur at Planned Parenthood clinics, it is the largest abortion provider in America. Recent scandals have uncovered Planned Parenthood’s horrific and illegal practice of harvesting and selling fetal tissue. While Planned Parenthood does provide other reproductive health services, numerous family health departments and private clinics provide these same services without performing abortions. It is also interesting to note that prenatal services accounted for only 0.28 percent and adoption referrals a mere 0.0076 percent of the services provided by Planned Parenthood. Contrary to popular belief, mammograms are not performed at Planned Parenthood clinics; they refer women to other facilities to have mammograms performed.
Margaret Sanger, Planned Parenthood’s founder, advocated eugenics and using birth control to eradicate the black population. While minority women constitute only about 13 percent of the female population in the United States, they underwent approximately 36 percent of the abortions and according to the Alan Guttmacher Institute, black women are more than five times as likely as white women to have an abortion. Since the legalization of abortion in 1973, America’s black community has lost 36 percent of its members.
Area residents have two opportunities to support life by attending the Life Chain in Rio Grande from 2-3 p.m. Oct. 2 and attending the movie “Voiceless” at 7 p.m. Oct. 7 at the Tilton Theater in Northfield.
Distinguished filmmaker, Dinesh D’Souza, reveals the shameful truth about Hillary Clinton and the secret history of the Democratic Party as it transitioned from pro-slavery and anti-minority to pro-enslavement in his movie, “Hillary’s America.” From Andrew Jackson’s suppression of slaves and slaughter of Indians, modern Democrats have switched tactics and purchase minorities’ votes through government handouts. By keeping as much of the population as possible reliant on the government for their basic needs, the Democratic Party can then count on their vote. This is the reason why so many Democrats blindly support Hillary, in spite of her endless scandals.
The Republican Party founded the anti-slavery movement and while not one Republican politician in the 19th century owned slaves, all of them fought to free them. The Democratic Party was responsible for the rise of the Ku Klux Clan while Republicans were responsible for minorities and women gaining the right to vote. Republicans led the civil rights movement of 1865-1895 while the Democrats opposed it.
There is a clear-cut difference between the two parties so citizens would be wise to become informed and vote for the candidates that uphold their values.
