Congratulations to Red and Blue

Congratulations to Red and Blue
To the Editor:
With this year’s election in the rear view mirror two things stand out as I review the statewide vote count of Governor Christie and the margin of victory for my state senator Jeff Van Drew. Both had blowout 20-point landslide wins, Christie in a blue state and Van Drew in a red legislative district.
First off the wins demonstrate the intelligence of the much-aligned voting public. Both Christie and Van Drew received public support because they get things done in a bipartisan cooperation and the voting public rewarded them both for it. The voter had to split his/her ticket to support the better candidate not the political party and that can only be regarded as refreshing.
Secondly both Van Drew and Christie built their public service on a foundation of personal relationships. Van Drew has spent years at the entrances of every Wawa and ShopRite in the 1st district in addition to his willingness to cross the political aisle in the state senate to support good ideas over his own political caucus. And Chris Christie reaching out to President Obama during super storm Sandy despite partisan criticism demonstrated his willingness to partner with anyone who could/would help the New Jersey victims of the storm. Christie and Van Drew worked together to make the quality of my life better.
Despite having different political affiliations, both men received my vote. No Republican governor was ever elected by the margins Christie did and no Democrat in the history of New Jersey has ever won the 1st Legislative District with the record-breaking margin of victory that Van Drew achieved.
I want to congratulate both men for their historic victories. The results of the election reflect the character, compassion and cooperation Van Drew and Christie bring to their job representing us all and I wish them both well as they continue to do the people’s business.
