Compare the World War II Effort to COVID

By Lois Grimes, Villas

To the Editor:
When I think of what this country accomplished during World War II  compared to the current COVID-19 pandemic, it boggles my mind. During the World War II years, we trained hundreds of thousands of men and women, providing them with uniforms, housing, food and whatever tools they needed to carry out their missions.
Thousands upon thousands of ships, aircraft, tanks, and every type of vehicle required were cranked out of our factories.  All this in addition to a huge arsenal of weapons and ammunition. War was fought on two continents.  We brought Japan and Germany to their knees, saving the world from tyranny.
We have disgraced the honor and sacrifice of that generation and their monumental effort.
Get it together, Washington! Bailing on your fellow Americans is despicable.
The courage and compassion of our extraordinary citizens surging to the front lines of this pandemic battle to save lives is most commendable in spite of the utter failure of our so-called leaders to stand behind them.
