To The Editor:
A lot of your readers asked about Gov. Chris Christie’s investigation into the gazebo matter. I met with Sen. Jeff Van Drew, Nov. 17, 2011, with Assemblymen Albano and Milam, that he reviewed the documents and will urge Christie to finish his investigation.
I showed him the survey read on Oct. 11, 2010 that shows the gazebo is 14.98 feet; that is under the 15-foot height limit. I just received a notice from Sea Isle City Mayor Leonard C. Desiderio and City Solicitor Paul Baldini stating that they are going to court on April 9 to have the gazebo torn down the next day. This is why Christie needs to finish his investigation. So I just wrote a letter to Rep. Frank LoBiondo who has a good history with the gazebo.
His words were read at the gazebo during the Charles K. Landis, founder of Sea Isle City, etched glass panel dedication, “I look forward as I am sure your family, friends, and local residents do, to the completion of this special project and the rest of the etching that you have planned.”
Sen. Nick Asselta’s quote, “As a member of the New Jersey Historical Commission, I believe it is imperative to preserve the beautiful history of our towns in order to honor the past and educate the future. Your creative style is such a unique way to capture the beauty of Sea Isle City. Your family and community have every reason to be proud of your hard work and dedication.” Sen. Jim Cafiero’s quote, “Viewing your masterpiece of a unique and beautifully etched pictorial history and a constant reminder of all the good times and memories in Sea Isle City.”
In my letter I asked to meet with LoBiondo as soon as possible. I know he will help to urge the governor to finish his investigation and put an end to this nightmare.
The gazebo features and my husband’s and my good memories of Sea Isle etched in glass. A lot of people told me they were willing to chain themselves to the gazebo on April 10, but I believe in peaceful ways of settling things, I have commitments to many organizations in Sea Isle, and if I don’t hear from Christie that he is finished with his investigation I am prepared to go on a hunger strike on May 13, but I know with the congressman’s help urging the governor that I won’t have to go to that extreme. If for some reason I have to on May 13, I’ll send letters to senators Lautenberg and Menendez for a federal investigation.
I know LoBiondo, and I know that he will meet with the governor. I’ve also sent a letter to Oprah asking her to come see the gazebo because it represents so much of her philosophy before the city tears the gazebo down even though the survey says it’s under 15 feet. To help you understand what the gazebo is all about and why the mayor is doing this go to www.savetheseaislecitygazebo.com.
See the YouTube videos that have been viewed by over 50,000 people. Coming over the Sea Isle City bridge the first thing you see is the counterfeit gazebo where they got caught threatening me to put mine.
The mayor has been fining me $1,000 a week since the survey was read which is now over $79,000, and now their trying to destroy the evidence on April 10. Remember if I was never born, there would not be a gazebo at JFK and the beach.
