To the Editor:
The Patsy’s Way endeavor has degenerated to its current position because of a lack of leadership within our Township Committee. I feel sorry for the residents of this area and the entire community for the loss of a truly remarkable undertaking. If the rumors are true to the type of occupancy that may happen there now, I wish the area residents success in their legal confrontation. From the outset, this matter was politicized and mishandled by our elected officials. This is part of an affordable housing issue that has concerned many citizens, including myself, for a very long time. Profits and politics have been the overriding determining factors to this sensitive matter.
I have spoken to this several times, supporting the original proposal and prompting Committee to do what was necessary to assure its success. At no time have I encouraged or supported anything but the single family homes on one-acre lots, designed for disabled residents. I have been attacked and vilified by members of Committee who were looking for a scapegoat when I stood up. I have been standing up for what I believe since long before this Committee ever attended a meeting. My presentations are carefully written to address the issue and not make personal attacks. I will admit my unscripted responses to the arrogance that now comes from the dais are a wee a bit passionate.
I want to apologize to the area residents of Patsy’s Way if anything I may have said has caused them to misunderstand my sentiments. The Taxpayer’s Association and my continued involvement were born of my fight to protect my neighborhood from undesirable development. I get it! I want to reiterate to Township Committee: you blew it.
