To the Editor:
Publisher Art Hall’s column April 18 on China was spot on.
The Xi regime is focused on the original Communist goal – domination. Unfortunately, U.S. policy and the last three U.S. presidents have assisted in that goal, not deterred it.
The very idea of giving special trade status and opening up investment opportunities to the Communist regime merely emboldened their efforts at consolidating a singular dictatorship, not widened any democratic principles. The clearest sign of this demonic regime was giving Xi the presidency for life. He has professed admiration for Chairman Mao, and his abhorrent views of enslavement of the Chinese people and the rest of the world as his goals.
Xi is cut from the same cloth while dressing in western style and professing an affinity for capitalist economic ideas, America must lead the world in stopping the ambitions of this demagogue. He is reminiscent of the dictators of that ended in causing World War II.
President Trump is at least beginning to recognize that China’s economic power, aided much by American policy, is now funding China’s political power as well.
The Chinese have made incursions worldwide and are seeking to dominate key industries (such as rare earth) and strategic areas (like the military buildup in the South China Sea).
The history of their treachery is notable from control of Manchuria over a century ago to annexing its sovereign neighbor, Tibet, and forcing abolition of its culture. Now, they are moving into military positions telegraphing their future intentions of military domination. Now is the time for the U.S. to act decisively.
