Chief Thanks All for National Night Out

By MASTRIANA

To The Editor:
On Aug. 6, Lower Township joined thousands of communities around the world to participate in and celebrate the 30th anniversary of National Night Out. The event was held at the Lower Cape May Regional High School with interior and exterior displays and activities.
The Lower Township Police Department would like to thank all of the businesses, agencies, groups and citizens who volunteered their time and resources to help make this night fun and informative. We appreciate everyone who came out to spend a fun evening getting to know the local police, fire, rescue, militia and SWAT Personnel.
We had another great turn out this year, despite the threat of a storm. Some 2,000 citizens came out to learn from community representatives about issues that affect them daily. This event has evolved to include many organizations and private businesses in our community who want to help educate the public in crime awareness and prevention.
Many of our local businesses sponsor this event by donating and serving refreshments to all who attend. Other sponsors provide activities such as pony rides, a rock climbing wall, a dunk tank (with a police officer as the target), face painting, air mats for gymnastics, live entertainment and other fun games and activities.
Each year, this National Crime Awareness Event brings people from all over the township together and helps us realize the importance and value of working together. We get a true sense of community and just how great a force that can be.
Again I want to thank all those who participated in this year’s National Night Out and especially those who helped organize the event. A lot of time and effort goes into planning this each year and I am, grateful to those who truly put their heart into it to make it a night for us all to remember.
