To the Editor:
One of the world’s master showman and illusionists, more than 100 years after his passing, sheds light on the dark appeal of presidential wannabe Donald Trump.
“The public appears disposed to be amused even when they are aware of being deceived,” said P.T. Barnum, whose legacy lives on in the Barnum & Bailey Circus today.
I figured an informed and vigilant citizenry would be able to detect a not-so-cleverly disguised wolf in sheep’s clothing.
Surely, Americans wouldn’t fall for a snake oil salesman promising deliverance through divisiveness – and only as a means of self-enrichment.
Trump literally can’t speak without uttering an untruth, attacking, fear mongering or gloating.
Rather than being some sort of hackneyed deliverer (as an alarming number of disenchanted Americans view him), he is more akin to Adolf Hitler or Bonito Mousilini.
The Republican presidential nominee’s angry, hateful, inciting words have unquestionably fed the increasing violence on American streets, if not around the globe.
His refusal to acknowledge a grave racial divide in our country has only exacerbated tensions between cops and blacks, contributing to the chaos and death.
There are so many things wrong about Trump that it would take from now until Election Day Nov. 8, to list them.
The Trump “University” lawsuit, suspect ties to Russia, misuse of charity funds and his complex web of international business interests that would severely conflict with a Trump presidency, are just a few concerns.
Scores of military brass, defense, intelligence, diplomats and political leaders have vowed to oppose him, citing his antagonistic stances and worldwide business interests.
Does Hillary Clinton have baggage? Definitely. But she represents nowhere near the threat to this country that an unstable, narcissistic, demagogue does.
Jane Goodall, who lived among chimpanzees for years, recently summed up Trump expertly.
Goodall said Trump reminds her of a male chimp named Mike. Mike the chimp in his quest to be the leader of the pack would jump up and down, make loud noises and throw things to get the other chimps’ attention.
In the chimps’ world, it’s often the craziest acting male who is chosen as leader by the group, as was the case with Mike. So, what does that say about Trump believers?
Barnum was right. The public does seem “disposed to be amused even when they are aware of being deceived.” And our base desire to be entertained could end up destroying us.
There’s no telling what would happen under a Trump presidency. A vote for the billionaire TV icon amounts to signing America’s death knell.
So, the burning question is, will Americans get their fill of this nightmarish reality TV series, “The Donald,” before the season finale actually lands an unstable man in the White House?
Cape May – Governor Murphy says he doesn't know anything about the drones and doesn't know what they are doing but he does know that they are not dangerous. Does anyone feel better now?
