To the Editor:
Publisher Art Hall hit the nail on the head with his column regarding illegal immigrants. Illegal and legal immigrants built this country and fought and died for it. I don’t think that a wounded man or woman, lying bleeding on a battlefield in an American uniform, would be asked if he/she was a legal immigrant. There are many immigrants in our current military that wish to be citizens of this country and are willing to fight and possibly die in an American uniform just for the opportunity to be citizens here. This is because America is great! Yes, many believe in its greatness and would fight and possibly die to get here with their families. Yes, we have to control in some reasonable human way, the numbers wishing to come here. However, it’s simply out of the question to allow anybody to limit an entire group of people entry to America because of their religious faith and practice, color or country of origin. It’s discrimination and we don’t allow that in America.
I have to question why so many Americans believe that all of their problems stem from immigrants when they are the product of immigrants somewhere in their family history. I also question how our current president can budget a large tax break for the wealthy and an increase for those of us who are middle class. Also, I don’t understand how you can decrease the budget for education, medical insurance programs for the uninsured, and medical treatment opportunities for women while increasing the budget for the military. Cutting the budget for the Coast Guard (CG) simply makes no sense at all. This budget cut shows how inconsistent this administration is. The CG plays an enormous role in the protection of our shores and our shipping near our shores. It also polices the country’s waters, stopping drugs and illegal immigration efforts.
Who draws up these budgets and where do they get their information? This administration hasn’t yet filled most of the positions needed to run this country yet it seems to spend most of it’s time criticizing the last administration who did the job.
You can’t make this stuff up. It’s in the news every day. All the newspapers and the media, in general, do a thankless job in providing the information. I can’t believe that any of it is fake. The press deserves an award for their efforts. We still have a free press in America. Thank God and not Donald Trump!
Cape May – The number one reason I didn’t vote for Donald Trump was January 6th and I found it incredibly sad that so many Americans turned their back on what happened that day when voting. I respect that the…
