Amplifying an Obituary

By Mazurek

As I read a local paper the other day, I came to an obituary page and noticed a specific obituary. This was for Mrs. Bobbie Babbitt who was a former teacher and colleague of mine at Lower Cape May Regional. I was struck with the simple words saying, “She was a former teacher.” This mundane description does not do justice to Mrs. Babbitt. She was much more than that. She gave a huge part of her life to education, rising to Principal. However, her calling was to be a teacher, and at that she was a master. She provided a vital mathematics background to scores of students over her career. She cared for her students like they were her own children. She was a good example to her colleagues and was a terrific and caring educator. So as an addendum to Mrs. Babbitt’s obituary I would add, “One of the most caring teachers ever.”
Rest in peace Mrs. Babbitt and I can only wish the same will be said of me.
