Dear Editor,
The adoption community is well aware that the American Civil Liberties (ACLU) Union follows an agenda rather than its mission statement. So pardon us if we don’t join in on the praise for this group who simply picked an easy fight when it defended Derek Fenton, the Koran burner. With an opportunity to support the constitutional rights of adoptees, the ACLU chose instead to side with their lawyer members and support government sealed records. It seems the ACLU’s mission statement, like their interpretation of the Constitution, is that it is a living document that they can apply as they see fit.
I’ve served my country in Iraq, and believe in the right to burn the flag. I’m Catholic and believe in the right to burn the Bible, and as an adoptee, I believe my fellow adoptees should have the right to burn their own birth certificates, if the state would kindly release them.
