In reference to a recent article in the Herald titled, “You Served Your Country and Your Country Owes You” and the quote therein: “Every man and woman that’s served in the military deserves two things,” said Green. “One is to know what the benefits are. Two, to use them, whether they need it now or someday in the future.”
May I add a third thing every man and woman that’s served in the military deserves? It is to receive full recognition towards combat service in accordance with applicable guidelines.
In particular, combatants who participated in the battles of Bataan, Corregidor on the Philippine Islands, and Battle of the Bulge in Europe.
I have been involved with WWII veterans for a number of years with the process to receive full recognition, but I have failed them. The U.S. Army continues to apply guidelines after the fact denying combatants recognition due as their counterparts they fought alongside. A violation of the U.S. Constitution (according to a local attorney, retired USAFR Colonel, former AG Officer).
There are a number of concerned Americans who formatted a letter (pending endorsements) to submit to Secretary of Defense Hagel. Purpose: To expose the unbalanced scale of recognition applied by the U.S. Army from 1948 to February 2013.
