Sanctity of Life Sunday again slipped by more silently than the snow, but unlike the Blizzard of 2016, it was largely unnoticed and under-reported. For all the talk about “choice,” young women today seem to have less power over their bodies and their sexuality than in generations past. Our culture of death presents a “make-believe” world where sex is just a pleasurable pastime and entirely disconnected from the creation of life. In this pretend world, STDs are altogether preventable and contraception always works, even in the hands of impulsive teens. When it doesn’t, abortion is the only real choice – with no emotional or ethical consequences.
Why do so many of our teenage girls put up with a “dating market” mentality whereby sex is the price of any relationship? If the girl is responsible for preventing pregnancy or for “getting rid of it” if she conceives, where is the power in that relationship? All the power and the advantages belong to the guy. In the words of one brave middle school girl, “I don’t know how it was before you were married, but nowadays, no boy will date a girl more than a couple of times if she doesn’t sleep with him. If we want to date, we have no choice.” And therein lies the problem. We have believed the big lie.
But I see a new generation, the “ultra sound” generation, who are rejecting the lies. They have seen the 3D ultrasound videos with the baby sweetly yawning safely inside her mother’s womb. They recognize the obvious humanity of the fetus. They embrace their femininity because they know they have real choice. They know, if they just wait, they can have everything they want. They have the power to say no and are willing to wait for love and the emotional and physical safety of a lasting commitment. They can opt for the only really safe sex; with a man who is exclusively and permanently committed to them. These are the new feminists, who refuse to embrace the deception and soul-destroying conformity of the culture. Large numbers of these empowered teenagers and women in their early 20s were among the tens of thousands who braved the wind and snow at the March for Life in Washington DC Jan. 22. Many of our own Cape May County teens attended the 2016 Rally for Life in Trenton to communicate a message of beauty and dignity for each human life. This new breed of feminist refuses the false banner of choice that our culture has been throwing at them since they were born. They know real power and freedom! Pro-life and Pro-woman go hand in hand!
Cape May – The number one reason I didn’t vote for Donald Trump was January 6th and I found it incredibly sad that so many Americans turned their back on what happened that day when voting. I respect that the…
