To the Editor:
This morning as I slipped into a pair of 10-year-old leather boots I looked at the new soles and heels that were perfectly replaced last year at Young’s Shoe Repair on Mechanic Street in Court House.
As each season ended I would bring them my favorite shoes and boots that needed something to be done to extend their life. When I would pick them up days later I was never disappointed.
A few months ago on one of my many daily walks past their storefront, I saw a handwritten note taped to their front door…”Closed for Business.”
Slowly the workshop is being emptied of the tools of that trade, and in the front window, a small statue of a cobbler remains. I, for one, am so saddened to see them closed for good. For decades they have helped to make my steps happy ones. I already miss Young’s Shoe Repair.
