To The Editor:
We are told that meridian means the highest point of the sun in the daytime and usually we call it noon. That means that noon, the meridian, can never be before noon a.m., or after noon p.m. Conversely midnight is exactly 12 hours before the meridian and also 12 hours after the meridian so can properly be called either 12 a.m. or 12 p.m. Realistically 12 noon should be called noon without any limitations.
