Senator Knew Bill’s Intent

By Christina Walls, Cape May

To the Editor:
This is to correct false information stated in the Feb. 12 letter by Gail Pfeifer.
I would like to assure readers that Sen. Michael Testa went above and beyond to understand the language of S2173, the bill that was slated to remove religious exemption to vaccination in the state, as well as the two amendments.
Not only did he do his due diligence with regard to this bill, but he also understands fully the implications of the government imposing something onto citizens that carry great risk, even death.
Testa understands the Constitution and is dedicated to upholding it. To say that he has not done due diligence regarding childhood vaccinations is incorrect and unfair.
Pfeifer believes that Testa failed to address public health and safety. First, true herd immunity cannot exist with vaccination. It is impossible due to primary, secondary and tertiary vaccine failure.
True herd immunity was a theory that developed from natural immunity that was obtained in communities through natural infections. Mothers would pass antibodies to their infants via the placenta and breast milk, which would then protect the child into the years where it became safe for them to contract the normal childhood diseases, which would give them life-long immunity.
They would grow and pass it to their infants and so on. Vaccines do not provide life-long immunity nor are they 100% effective. In addition, live virus vaccines shed for weeks and it is often advised in hospitals and on vaccine inserts not to go near an immunocompromised person after being vaccinated. Most vaccines are about individual protection and have nothing to do with herd immunity.
For example, Hepatitis B is a sexually transmitted disease, as is Human Papilloma Virus. Tetanus and diphtheria are not something one can catch from someone. Why are we lumping all vaccines together?
Children who are positive for HIV or Hepatitis B are permitted in school, and rightly so, yet a child who has not received a Hepatitis B vaccine is excluded. This makes no sense.
The immunocompromised face threats from various sources, not just the 16 pathogens that we have developed vaccines for. The fact is, an unvaccinated child cannot spread a disease they do not have.
It is the vaccinated child who has the disease within their body, not the unvaccinated who has never been injected with it. This is evidenced by outbreaks in fully vaccinated schools and communities with a 100% vaccination rate.
When Pfeifer stated “learn how to make the best decisions for your family” is she implying that parents, in general, should have the choice to make the very best decision for their family, or is she insinuating that the very best decision for their family would only be one in alignment with what the pharmaceutical industry dictates?
If this legislation is passed, parents will be robbed of the right to make the very best decisions for their child. The government will be making those decisions for them.
Instead of questioning the research, knowledge base or due diligence of our senator here in District 1, I urge Pfeifer to do due diligence when it comes to this legislation. Follow the amendments. Dive deep into the truth about vaccines and understand the very real risk of devastating adverse reactions.
Testa could not have been more spot on to frame this legislation as government intrusion on religious freedom and constitutional rights.
Thank God we have someone like him who will stand up for parental choice, religious freedom, medical options and our constitution.
