To the Editor:
This is in response to the Feb. 12 letter by Thomas Nickelson. The letter did not present the truth about the impeachment of President Trump.
This is what we saw on the television screen if we watched the impeachment.
The House of Representatives gathered together 17 witnesses who risked their careers to defy Trump’s ban on any witnesses. This was the second article of impeachment, obstruction of justice.
These witnesses testified that Trump had solicited foreign interference in the 2020 presidential election. He withheld almost $400 million voted by Congress to aid Ukraine in its war against Russia. This was the first article of impeachment, abuse of power.
Whereas the House has the sole power of impeachment, the Senate has the sole power of trying impeachment cases.
The senators swore at the beginning of the trial to do impartial justice. Several senators expressed their intention not to be impartial.
A trial, to be just, must have witnesses. This trial had no witnesses.
One of the senators who said he would not do impartial justice blocked any witnesses from being called.
Should anyone have tried to watch the impeachment trial on Fox News, they would have been frustrated.
Whenever Fox News was turned on a soundless postage-stamp-sized picture of the impeachment trial was in one corner of the screen while normal programming was being carried on.
