Wildwood Catholic Will Always Provide Christ-centered Study

By joseph wallace

As all of you know, Wildwood Catholic High School has been an academic and spiritual presence that has impacted all of Cape May County for over 60 years. The persistent rumors the past few years that the high school was going to close due to lower enrollment almost became a self-fulfilled prophecy.
Due to a precipitous mounting debt and creeping lower enrollment over the past few years, the freshmen class enrollment this past year was unusually small. This was due to the fear that they would not make it to graduation at Wildwood Catholic High School before it closed. This all led to the announcement in early January that the high school would close. The local community rallied and immediately went to work to save the high school.
The Wildwood Catholic High School Advisory Board and Save Wildwood Catholic organization worked tirelessly from their respective vantages to gather the needed plan and finances to move into a long term commitment to first revitalize and second keep the school open for many more years. The team of pastors at the newly formed Notre Dame de la Mer Parish in the Wildwoods accepted and supported the decision of our local community to stay open with a new vision, leadership structure and continuing plan for self sustaining support.
The Wildwood Catholic High School Advisory Board elected me to serve as president of the high school. In this capacity I will work along with Fr. Field and Fr. Agudelo, my partners in ministry at Notre Dame de la Mer Parish, as well as, parents, school board, administration, faculty, schools office, students and the wider Christian community to continue the fine tradition of Christ-centered education at Wildwood Catholic High School for many, many years to come.
What I would like to emphasize most in this column is the fact that the solution to our closure is not for the short term but for the long term. We want to dispel any rumor or fear that this is only a short-term solution. We are currently working on establishing an endowment that will stabilize our school well into the future.
With this assurance we hope our freshman enrollment will reflect this confidence. Wildwood Catholic High School is a four year college preparatory school that provides an exemplary academic opportunity, while forming our young people in the Catholic Christian values, teachings and moral traditions.
Our students are offered many exciting opportunities to excel spiritually, academically, athletically, artistically, socially in a safe, disciplined and loving environment. Our graduates are accepted at some of the finest academic institutions in our county. We hope the wider Christian community; both our Greek Orthodox and Protestant students and their families will consider and come see what is offered at our wonderful school. We hope to offer an ecumenical perspective that seeks to educate and form the Christian student in the midst of our secularized and confusing culture.
We are currently accepting applications for the 2010-11 academic year. Financial aid is available for incoming students. Parents/guardians are encouraged to contact Wildwood Catholic High School at 522-7257 to discuss individual needs and to obtain an application for admission.
Additionally, prospective students are invited to experience a day as a Crusader through shadowing existing Wildwood Catholic students. If you have any questions whatsoever please call 522-7257.
