Our family members just received an e-mail from our daughter, Anna Faith, in preparation for being together again here this summer. Can you feel the exuberance in her words?
Hi, family!
Summer is coming!!! Hooray! I am so excited to see all these spring blooms – they hold the promise that in fact summer is around the corner… the beach…the sand… all of us watching the kids play in the ocean… Ben’s mixed drinks on the back deck… tomato mozzarella and basil… Daddy’s BBQ… outside showers … hanging out at Beach Creek… late evening dips in the warm surf… Duffers ice cream… What are YOU ALL looking forward to about summer??? Please chime in!
Love ~ Anna-Faith
Our children were all raised in Wildwood Crest and the things she mentioned above are among things we have done as a family for over 30 years.
I always get an inward glow this time of year, and grow increasingly appreciative of the beautiful place we call Cape May County. Obviously I am not alone, as hundreds of thousands of you have established your own traditions here, even those of you who are here only part time.
One of the things that keeps us excited is that people take pretty good care of this place. As I was driving to Rio Grande to work the other day, I saw three state trucks parked along the causeway to pick up trash.
In gratitude I stopped and thanked the men, who smiled back and said, “We do the best we can.” It just took me a minute; I know the joy I feel when people tell me how much they like the Herald and I like to express appreciation to others when I have an opportunity.
So speaking of cleanup, we have a lot to do each year, and the heavy snows have added to the task. I hope that we never grow blind to all the natural beauty surrounding us here, and never grow lax in our efforts to put on our best bib and tucker for the pleasure which it brings us all, not to mention the enjoyment it brings to our tourism guests.
Welcome to Cape May County in the spring!
