The Historical Preservation Society of Upper Township (HPSUT) was right on track at its recent meeting with a program of “Railroad Memories.” The society really made the grade, as there were lots of train memorabilia on display including photos, models of a standard locomotive and Budd cars, maps, schedules, lanterns, message hook, and more.
When Harriett Reardon Bailey, vice president of the group, posed the question to the crowded room, “How many of you here tonight had a relative who worked for the railroad?” most of the hands were raised. Bailey spoke about her grandfather, Henry Endicott, a “railroad section foreman who moved to Sea Isle City in 1915.” Bailey remarked, “when you go into Sea Isle City, you can still see the railroad beds at the left of the Causeway.”
Jerry Bailey shared stories about his father, E. G. Bailey; and his grandfather, Raymond Sack, both of whom are “enshrined at the Railroad Museum in Strasburg, Pa.”
All enjoyed the railroad program; as many interesting stories were shared by those attending, most of whom either worked for the railroad, or had family members that did.
