6, 50, 30, 28 – Harry Scott of Somers Point is a man of numbers and numerical accomplishments. He’s a man of numbers as a retired CPA, and a man of numerical accomplishments as the numbers 6, 50, 30, and 28 show. This year, Scott played golf on six continents, in six cities, in six days. In 2012, he played 50 golf games, in 50 states, in 50 days. In 2009, starting in Oakland, Calif., he visited all 30 major league stadiums in 30 days. In 1995, he had driven to Anaheim and visited 28 major league stadiums in 28 days.
Scott recently spoke to the “Best of Life” group in Marmora and impressed all with his adventure this year. He began his world golfing tour in early September with his first stop in Australia, and then continued through Malaysia, Egypt, England, Bahamas, and Venezuela. Scott commented that at the Dreamland Golf Resort in Cairo, Egypt, the “tee box markers were little pyramids.” The Stoke Park Golf and Country Club outside of London can be seen in the James Bond films Goldfinger and Tomorrow Never Dies. In describing the Junko Golf Club in Venezuela, he said it was “spectacular,” as it was “carved out of the mountains.”
Asked which golf course was his favorite, Scott said, “The one I’m playing today.” He also remarked that there were no language problems, as “no matter where you go, somebody always speaks English.” Scott traveled on eight different airlines, and noted, “every single flight was on the dot, taking off and landing on time; there were no travel snags.”
A graduate of Ocean City High School, Class of ’51, Scott traveled “a little over 28,000 miles from home to home.” He commented that his trip in 2012 was “like a marathon,” whereas this 2013 trip was “more like a sprint.”
Asked about trips in the future, Scott’s comment was that he’s “thinking about a few plans.”
