Halloween Trick-or-Treat hours have been set by the Upper Township Committee to take place from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Oct. 31. For questions, please contact the Upper Township Clerk’s Office at 628-2011, ext. 200.
Children are reminded to wear bright visible clothing, carry a flashlight, and be very cautious when crossing streets. Younger children should always walk with an adult. All drivers are asked to please use extreme caution when driving on Halloween, and to please watch out for little ghosts and goblins crossing streets.
Have an adult check your candy before eating it.
Above all, have a safe and happy Halloween.
Why were SpongeBob, Elvis, a fortuneteller, and others on the beach in Strathmere? It was for a surf contest held by the NPN Surf Club of Ocean City, which was a fun time for all. Ron Curcio was the winner of the Longboard Division and the overall contest winner. The surfing event also featured a food drive with canned goods being collected for the Ocean City Food Cupboard.
Trail of Two Cities—This 5K Run/Walk, over the new Causeway between Ocean City and Somers Point, steps off on Nov. 2. The event is open to all ages, from 9 and under to 70 and over. The starting time is 8:00 a.m. at the Ocean City Transportation Center, 9th and Haven Ave. Register online until Oct. 30. Race day registration starts at 7:00 a.m. at the Transportation Center.
Buses will be available at JFK Park in Somers Point to take runners to the start before the race. Buses will also bring runners back to Ocean City after the race. The finish and awards ceremony will be held in Somers Point after all of the participants have completed the course.

Smoking Cessation Classes are scheduled each Wed. in Nov. from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. (Nov. 6, 13, 20, and 27) in the Brodesser Cancer Center conference room on the ground floor of Cape Regional Medical Center. The fee for the classes is $25, with a refund of $15 if you attend all of the classes. The Program includes education about risk factors for smoking, nicotine replacement alternatives, lung function testing, stress management, dietary concerns regarding weight gain, and relapse prevention.
