And they’re off! Turtle release at the boat ramp in Strathmere is set for June 16, at 9:45 a.m. as announced by Dan McLaughlin, Research and Conservation coordinator at the Wetlands Institute in Stone Harbor. These turtles are the result of undamaged eggs taken from turtles that had been killed on the roads. The eggs were then incubated, hatched, and head-started at Stockton College turtle farm. One week left – before the start of the sixth annual Bloomsday Celebration in Ocean City. A staged reading of James Joyce’s Ulysses will take place at various locations throughout the city on June 16, from noon to midnight. CPR – AED Course – Learn the basics of CPR and also how to use an AED (automated external defibrillator) at Shore Memorial Hospital’s Health and Conference Center on Shore Road at New York Ave. Two sessions are available on June 19, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. The cost is $20 per person, which includes an instruction book and certification card. Payment will be accepted prior to the start of the course. Class size is limited for both sessions, and registration is required, which can be done in person or by calling Shore Memorial’s Life Support Training Center from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Thursday, at 609-892-9278.

Events of interest at the Main Library –Parlez-vous français? Conversational French classes are being offered by the Cape May County Library on Tuesdays at 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. from June 15 through Aug. 31. The classes will be held at the Main Branch of the library located at 30 Mechanic St. in Court House.
Reading and discussion of literature will also be included in the course. Class size will be limited. A library card and registration are required, which can be done by calling 609-463-6350 or going online at www.cmclibrary.org.

Cooking with Kalla – A cooking demonstration featuring local seafood and a clambake will be held on June 19, at 1 p.m. at the Main Branch of the library. Chef Mark Kalla of Cape Cuisine will show different techniques for broiling, sautéing, and poaching local seafood, and participants will be invited to sample the food. There is no charge to attend, but space is limited. A library card and registration are required. See above for information on registering.
