UPPER NEWS NOTES – 6-2

By Rosemarie Whelan

Country Shore Women’s Club marks a milestone – The year 1969 saw the beginning of this volunteer/service organization in Upper Township, and recently the club concluded its 40th celebration year at their annual installation dinner.
Charter members from Upper Township, who are still active in the group today, include Dolores Clayton and Carolyn Harris. Taking the helm as the Club’s new President is Marge Gurbuz.
Through the years, the Club has spearheaded numerous programs that benefit community organizations and scholarships.
The Country Shore Women’s Club is a chapter of the New Jersey State Federation of Women’s Clubs and is a member of the General Federation of Women’s Clubs. The GFWC, founded in 1890, is one of the world’s largest and oldest women’s volunteer community service organizations.
