UPPER NEWS NOTES – 5-5

Got Coins? The local coin club, the ACNS, invites all coin collectors, or those interested in becoming one, to attend this month’s club meeting at the Linwood Public Library, today at 7 p.m. The topic this month will be “Buy the Book before the Coin.”
Various coin books will be displayed and discussed, to be followed by the regular coin auction where collectors may examine and purchase coins.
The Linwood Public Library is located at 301 Davis Ave., phone 609-926-7991. Admission is free.

13th Annual Mothers’ Day Family Concert – The Music Pier, Moorlyn Terrace and the Boardwalk, will be the setting for the concert which will take place on Sunday, from 4 to 6 p.m. The West Chester District Senior String Ensemble, conducted by Charles dePasquale, will perform. Admission is free.
Also, as part of Mothers’ Day celebration in Ocean City, flowers will be given away to all moms at participating Boardwalk and downtown stores, while supplies last, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, and Sunday. For more information, call 609-398-4662.

The Historical Society of Upper Township will be holding its regular meeting at the Upper Township Senior Center on May 11, at 7:30 p.m., with refreshments being served at 7 p.m.
Harry Shourds, noted decoy carver, will be presenting the program. The Center is located at 1369 Stagecoach Road, phone 609-390-9409. The Web site for the Historical Society is www.uppertwp history.org or call 609-390-5656.
Also, “Birds of a Feather,” a group of woodcarvers, flock together every Monday night from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Upper Township Senior Center. New members are most welcome to both groups.

The John Wesley Gandy House, ca. 1815, located on the west side of Tyler Road (CR 616), and operated by the Historical Society of Upper Township, will be one of eleven historic buildings included in the tour of the Cape May County Historical and Genealogical Society’s Historic House and Garden Tour Sites.
The tour takes place on Saturday, May 15, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., rain or shine.
Admission is $20 per person, $15 if tickets are purchased before the day of the tour.
