The annual Memorial Day service in Ocean City will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, at Veterans’ Memorial Park, 5th and Wesley Ave.
Lt. Col. Peter F. Rapetti, Jr., an Operations and Intelligence Troop Command Officer, will give the address. Remarks will be given by Jim Scanlon, a retired U.S. Army veteran.
The program will include the Honor Roll, naming those who died in service to our country. Bob Marzuilli, commander-elect of American Legion Post 524 of Ocean City, will read this and Brandon E. Gheen, VFW Commander, will toll the Memorial Bell. There will be a presentation of the Memorial Wreath, and the Colors will be posted. The Pledge of Allegiance will be said, and the National Anthem and God Bless America will be sung.
William Cruice will conduct a POW/Missing-in-Action Service. Greg Murphy, from Bugles Across America, will play Taps.
In the event of inclement weather, the service will be held in the Tabernacle auditorium, which is across the street from Veterans’ Memorial Park.

Memorial Day Observances in Upper Township – Members of VFW Post 8695 of Marmora and American Legion Post 239 of Tuckahoe will visit four monuments and eight area cemeteries on Monday. Boy Scout Troop 55 of Tuckahoe will serve as the color guard. A rifle salute, chaplain’s prayer, and Taps will occur at each stop, and a wreath presentation will also take place at the monuments. Light refreshments will be served at the Upper Township Recreation Center on Route 50 in Tuckahoe at approximately noon.

The sound of music coming forth from the Strathmere United Methodist Church will be that of the Strathmere Ensemble as they return for their annual Memorial Day weekend concert on Saturday, at 7 p.m. Another performance will also take place on Sunday, at 4 p.m. at the Sea Isle City United Methodist Church on J.F.K. Blvd.
Included in both programs will be John Philip Sousa marches, selections from Oklah
oma and Showboat, and other musical treats. These world-class artists include Mitsuru Tsubota, Mioi Takeda, and Mineko Yajima, violins; Louise Schulman, viola; Daire Fitzgerald, cello; Jack Kulowitsch, bass; and Michael Hinton, percussion.

Tenor at the Tabernacle – Huw Priday will perform a free concert at the Ocean City Tabernacle on Sunday, from 7 to 9 p.m. Priday has sung in opera houses and concert halls throughout Europe. At Her Majesty’s Theater in London, he sang the role of Piangi in Phantom of the Opera.

Bring “BeoWOOF” to the Boardwalk – Parade your pooch at the Annual Doggie/Best Friend Walk on the Ocean City Boardwalk, Sunday, from noon to 2 p.m. starting at the Music Pier. Registration will begin at 11:30 a.m. There will be lots of fun for all, including a pet contest where “WOOFgang” can compete with other canines. Entry fee is $15. All money benefits the Ocean City Humane Society.
All dogs must have current vaccinations and be leashed at all times. It is recommended that dogs under three months of age wait until next year.
