Keep your boat safely afloat — A boat safety examination, sponsored by the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, Flotilla 81 of Ocean City, will take place on May 30. The event, which is open to the public, begins at 9 a.m. and ends at 12 noon. It will be held at Whale Creek Marina, 2608 S. Bayview Drive, Strathmere.
A Certified Vessel Safety Examiner will check for all required safety items on board your boat. If everything is present and in good working order, a VSE decal will be awarded for placement on the boat.
The VSE decal attests to the fact that the boat is in compliance with federal and state requirements. These safety checks are meant to be an educational experience. No official report is made to any law enforcement authority.
For further information contact Robert Babezki at 609-384-6225, or email him at fso-cs@uscgaux-ocnj.org.

Protect your pet — To help keep your pet healthy, the Humane Society of Ocean City has added an extra day and is extending the hours of its Wellness Clinic, which will now be open on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to noon and Wednesdays from noon to 6 p.m.
The clinic offers the public low-cost options for routine services like vaccines and testing, but is not for emergency medical care or sick animals. While animals are examined by licensed veterinarians, the clinic is not a replacement for your own personal vet.
This service is geared toward lowering the cost of having pets, thereby keeping more pets in homes.
The clinic is by appointment only, which may be made by calling 609-399-2018. For more information, visit www. hsocnj.org. The Ocean City Humane Society is located at 1 Shelter Rd.
