I have been blessed to have had many wonderful older Christian men in my life to serve as mentors and examples to me. My own Dad was an amazing man who taught me to not only live for Jesus but how to die with courage and dignity when he graduated to glory some 13 years ago this month. Today I look up to a dear man who is like a father to me named Tom Crouthamel who at 76 years old is still conquering new lands for the Lord.
Another wonderful gift in my life was a former pastor of mine named Paul Bubna who while also now in heaven has allowed his words to be fully alive in me while I continue my sojourn here on earth. Pop Bubna even served as the Christian and Missionary Alliance president before he moved on up to an even higher place in the halls of eternity.
One of the prayers that I cling to all these years later was taught to me by Pastor Bubna. I have felt the urge to get on my knees and revisit these words as we break into a new school year and the season of autumn here in Cape May County. I desire still to see our awesome God ignite the light bright and make it hard to go to hell from our area here in New Jersey.
I want to invite all my believing brothers and sisters to join me in interceding for our neighbors and friends and associates and the rest of the people that we inhabit our daily worlds with. Shine, Jesus, shine and fill this county with the Father’s glory. Blaze, Spirit, blaze and set our hearts on fire.
And as Pastor Jim Cymbala of the Brooklyn Tabernacle has said, “The devil is not terribly frightened of our human efforts and credentials. But he knows his kingdom will be damaged when we begin to lift up our hearts to God.” Let’s continue to pray these four things so we may see our God work and move among us no matter how strong the storms that come to batter and defeat us may be.
Let’s Pray for the Following:
1. A Fresh Vision of the Glory of God Among Us: God, we want people to be drawn to come to your churches here in Cape May County.
We want people to experience the awesome power of God when they are with us who boldly and proudly call ourselves your disciples. We desire to take God’s glory beyond the building walls to explode all over Cape May County and watch how it will change our corner of the world. Please Lord; let us receive your fresh marching orders so we may be properly equipped as we go. No left over mercies will be enough for us. “Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for His compassion never fails. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness!” Lamentations 3:22-23
2. A Clear Understanding of God’s Directions for Us
God, we will not lean to our own understanding (Proverbs 3:5-6) and stamp your name on our own plans. We won’t pray prayers that we really don’t need you for. We will wait and anticipate your presence to hear your voice and then obey your commands wholeheartedly.
Here we are Lord, lead on oh King Eternal!
3. A Supernatural Spirit of Unity Among Us
Lord, we don’t want the kind of unity that may be experienced by being on a sports team, or at a Rotary club meeting or part of the regular happy hour crowd at the local bar. We want to be a genuine family cemented together by your love. We want Romans 15:5-6 to be a reality among us: “May the God who gives endurance and encouragement give you a Spirit of Unity among yourselves as you follow Christ Jesus, so that with one heart and mouth you may glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.”
4. Healing and Renewing of God’s Servants for the Battle
God, work on the inner hearts and souls of your people. Let our facades come down and rather than trying to get you to improve our outer images please start renewing us from the inside out! Bring healing and revival to your church God.
Let us build up the brokenhearted and keep the fire from being snuffed out. We know it’s a daily battle God and the enemy wants us deceived and destroyed but we want you to use us corporately to be a rescue operation sent to help people from impending eternal disaster- even if we have to come an inch from being pulled over the edge ourselves.
“But you, dear friends, build yourselves up in your most holy faith and pray in the Holy Spirit. Keep yourselves in God’s Love as you wait for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to bring you to eternal life. Be merciful to those who doubt; snatch others from the flames and save them; to others show mercy, mixed with fear- hating even the clothing stained by corrupted flesh.” Jude: 20-23
We need to commit to praying these things together with no excuses. I would love to know if you are in. Email me at pastorrudytlc@comcast.net and let’s march into September- remembering the size of the God we serve and move and have our being completely in. Amen and amen.
