Services for Veterans’ Day soon to be underway in Upper Township, Ocean City, and the County –
Upper Township – Staff Sergeant William Godfrey Memorial Park in Osprey Point, Rt. 9, Seaville, will be the scene of the annual Veterans’ Day Service on Friday, Nov. 11, at 10 a.m. Leading the Pledge of Allegiance will be Commander Charles Addelizi of VFW Post 8695 in Marmora.
American Legion Post 239 of Tuckahoe, whose Commander is Hermon Scheibein, will also take part in the service, with Ted Behr, Adjutant, presenting “The Missing Man Ceremony,” and Scheibein directing the rifle volley. Boy Scout Troop 55 of Tuckahoe will “Carry the Colors.”
Local Army veteran, Joseph Basile, will talk about his experiences in the Korean Conflict. In the event of rain, the service will be held in the Clubhouse of the Osprey Point Condominium Association. For further information, call Al Palombo at 609-390-5651.
Ocean City – The program will take place at Veterans’ Memorial Park, 5th and Wesley Ave., at 11 a.m. Commander Bob Marzulli of American Legion Post 524 will lead the Pledge of Allegiance. Mayor Jay Gillian will deliver remarks. A “Thank You, Veterans” will be presented by the Primary School students, and the Ocean City High School Band will play.
Gamaliel Broadley, WWII veteran; and Major Roxellen A. Auletto, 177th Fighter Wing Medical Group, will address those in attendance. Closing remarks will be made by VFW Post 6650 Commander, Brendan Gheen. In the event of inclement weather, the program will be moved to the Ocean City Tabernacle, 5th and Wesley Ave. For more information, call 609-525-9300.
Cape May County – Services will be held at the Cape May County Veterans’ Cemetery on Fri., Nov. 11, at 2 p.m. Speakers at the ceremony include Congressman Frank LoBiondo; Freeholder Gerald Thornton; Capt. William Kelly, Base Commander of the USCG Station in Cape May; and Staff Sgt. Andrew Jackson from Wildwood.
On Oct. 16, he returned from his second deployment to Iraq, which began October 2010. Jackson’s first deployment to Iraq, which began July 2007, lasted 15 months. Stationed in Savannah, Georgia, at Hunter Army Airfield, Jackson plans on a career in the service.

Library news – All Cape May County Libraries will be closed in observance of Veterans’ Day, Fri., Nov. 11.
The Ocean City Library will have shortened hours, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Veterans’ Day.
