OC & Upper News Notes – 11-28

By Rosemarie Whelan

Cape May County Library Happenings – The Chowder II Band entertained recently at the Sea Isle City Branch Library. The musicians played an assortment of instruments, and those in attendance enjoyed dancing to their music which highlighted Ragtime, Dixieland, Swing, and Country music from the 20s, 30s, and 40s.
The Chowder II Band began as the Brown Street Chowder Society, which was founded in 1972. The name came from Brown Street in Port Norris where rehearsals were first held, and also as a result of the members’ fondness for banjos and chowder. The Brown Street Chowder Society “formally retired in 2010.” Today, former members of the band “continue the original musical tradition under the new name, Chowder II Band.” For further information, contact Marianne Robinson at 856-327-2792.
The Cape May County Library offers a variety of free programs, classes, and lectures ranging from A to Z – Art to Zumba, and everything in between.
