Summer means another season of Maher Brothers Soccer (MBS) throughout the region.
President and founder Anthony Maher enters his ninth season as a professional player and his third campaign with the Philadelphia Kixx
“I am very excited to bring in not only the highest quality staff to coach your kids, but staff that are current professional players, top level college coaches, former international and national team players, and college All-Americans and standouts,” said Maher. “The great thing about playing professional soccer for a long time is all the great relationships and contacts I was able to make over the years.”
MBS summer camps run through August and they include events such as the third season of it flagship Pro Touch Camps where professionals teach the game. All ages are invited from July 16 to 20.
This will be the first season for the High School Girls’ Elite camp featuring Philadelphia area college coaches running drills. This activity is slated for July 26 to 30.
A Girls’ Only camp presented by Premier Gear Sports is set for females of all ages each morning from Aug. 2 to 6.
The MBS Striker Goalie’s camp is for ages 7 to 15 in the evenings from August 2 to 6.
MBS is known for its charitable endeavors, including a free Community Christian Camp open to all. Each child receives a ball, shirt, bible, MBS perk and other prizes.
“Matt Lassor’s Stocking will be our camp charity for the entire summer,” said Maher. “He was a close friend of my brother, Matt. He was tragically killed at age 12 in an automobile accident on the way to soccer practice. His family is local and started this charity to help kids in need get Christmas presents in memory of Matt Lassor. They’re a great family and it’s a great cause.”
Maher is perhaps most proud of his tri-state “King of the Court” soccer-tennis tournament. Six new cities have joined the popular event. The fun begins in Philadelphia in July and then stops in Wildwood, Washington Township, Rochester, Wilmington, and South Philadelphia.
Maher noted that playing soccer-tennis helps participants develop precise first touch on the ball, quick reaction and anticipation, increase overall soccer coordination, and increase communication skills. It offers numerous repetitions for increased learning, enhances creativity and soccer IQ, forces players to properly and intelligently use different parts of their bodies, including thigh, feet, head, and chest.
The Wildwood stop is at Fox Park on July 24 and 25.
“Wildwood’s tournament will be changing its name to The George Salveson Memorial Soccer Tennis Tournament in memory of Mr. Salveson, a man who was instrumental in developing soccer in Cape May County,” said Maher.

Success on the fields is being matched by business progress as Activation Sports Marketing (www.activationsports.com) has purchased 15 percent ownership equity in MBA and plans a nationalization process for 2011.
MBS has garnered new affiliations with historic club teams in Philadelphia, top radio stations and the U.S. Armed Forces.
Maher Brothers Soccer naturally includes brother Matt Maher and MBS is dedicated to sharing Matt’s story and teaching youngsters about life’s challenges and choices. Read more about the Matt Maher presentations MBS makes throughout the region at www.themattmaherstory.com .
“We are looking forward to sharing the very best with all of our participants so be sure to register today for the camp or camps that best suit your needs,” said Maher. You will not be disappointed. I guarantee it! And be sure to check out the King of the Court Official Soccer Tennis Tournament and get practicing.”
