Jesus Came at Just the Right Time

By Pastor Rudy Sheptock, Jr.

Pastor Rudy here…but not the one you’re used to reading.
I received a request from my dad to write as a guest.
As I thought through what I could share, I decided it would be best to share about an exciting experience that my father and I had in a city that he loves. If you know him, than you know that New York City has a special place in his heart.
Growing up, he would take any chance that he could to take us up to visit “The Big Apple.” These times were always exciting as we saw the bright lights and sights of the big city.
There is one particular trip to the city that will always overshadow the rest for me. It was on this trip that the Lord spared our lives in an incredible way.
Recalling the events that took place always serves as a good reminder for me of the Lord’s perfect timing and His Sovereign hand in our salvation.
The Apostle Paul said to the Galatians, “But when the fullness of the time came, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the Law, so that He might redeem those who were under the Law, that we might receive the adoption as sons.” The Lord was not slow in His promise to send the Savior, nor was He too fast. He came at just the right time.
Like many of our trips, we started the sightseeing early in order to take in all that we could. There was no sleeping in when joining my dad on an excursion, especially one to New York.
We saw many things that morning, but it soon came the time when our legs grew weary, and our stomachs grew loud calling for a mid-day break. We walked the streets trying to figure out what would both satisfy our hunger and my dad’s wallet.
After some time of searching, I had remembered that just before we left my mom had given us some coupons for McDonald’s. I reminded my dad of this, and we set out to find the beloved “golden arches” in the city.
Soon we were within feet of the restaurant. In that moment the smell of food overpowered all other city smells and I was ready to dig in but wait, what about the coupons?
My dad stopped to look in his wallet to find our “McDeals.” Just then something incredible took place. Down the street a car careened down the roadway, swerving in and out of the busy city traffic. The screeching of tires grew louder. It soon became clear that something wasn’t right.
Just when I could assess the situation this driver, in high speeds, shot up onto the sidewalk taking with him a hotel awning. With one final thrust of speed, he smashed into the McDonald’s that we were headed toward.
Glass and debris flew everywhere. Instinctively my dad pulled the back of my shirt collar just in time to miss the falling glass before me. My heart raced. These types of crashes only happen in movies. Everything seemed so surreal. However, I knew that at that moment, at just the right time, our lives were spared.
I’m not sure where I would be today if my mom had not packed those coupons along for our trip. My dad would have never stopped to look for them, and we may have been sitting at the point where the car had violently entered the restaurant.
The Lord knew the right moment to stop us. He knew the exact timing to spare us from death. The same is true when it comes to our eternal salvation. Praise God for the gift of His Son Jesus Christ.
The Lord’s plan all along was for Jesus to be sent at the “fullness of time” in order to stop sin in its tracks. Jesus came for us to be spared from the oncoming wrath of God.
The Lord sent Him when we needed Him most. Many people ignore Christ. They ignore the offer that God has sent forth to them and are walking to certain death.
First, have you stopped in surrender to Him? Have you given your life to Christ knowing that He is the only means of your salvation? And second, have you looked out among the crowd of family, friends, and strangers who are unaware of Christ and passed on this truth to them?
Jesus came at just the right time that you might be saved. Give yourself to Him for such a time is this! If you have done so then, you have every reason to give praise to God for His perfect timing and goodness in sparing you.
He came for you at just the right time, and His timing will continue to be perfect in your life as you trust Him to meet you where you are, when you need Him most, with only the grace and wisdom that He can supply.
Thanks for taking the time to read from another Pastor Rudy today and who knows, this news may have come at just the right time.
