Bill (bucktail willie) Shillingford fishing out of Whale Creek Marina has been in the water for 10 days and is finding a slow pick on short striped bass on bucktails.
While a few fluke have been caught, he says this April has been much slower than most others. He believes the fish are here but that the cold water has them settled into mud and not aggressive.
As soon as water warms a little, the fluke should get active as the only reason they come inshore is to eat.
Clam dunkers may have a better chance at larger striped bass.
Be sure to get your fishing report to me so I can include your info and photos.
