One Dead in Ocean City House Fire

OCEAN CITY — Police responding to a report of a fire at 1914 Asbury Ave. at 10:45 a.m. Wednesday, March 13, found the body of a man outside the building, on the second-floor landing of an exterior stairway.

Investigators were working to identify the victim and notify next of kin.

Ocean City police and firefighters sent to the scene found black smoke coming from the second floor of the residence. The fire was extinguished quickly.

There were no other occupants of the building at the time and no injury to any first responder. The structure suffered minimal exterior damage.

The incident remains under investigation by the Ocean City Police Department, Ocean City Fire Department, Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office and Cape May County fire marshal.
