A North Cape May resident has been arrested and charged with possession of child sexual abuse material, authorities said.
Cape May County Prosecutor Jeffrey H. Sutherland and Chief Kevin Lewis of the Lower Township Police Department said Joseph T. Madden IV, 30, was arrested after an investigation stemming from a National Center for Missing and Exploited Children cyber tip.
The tip was that an unidentified subject, subsequently identified as Madden, downloaded/uploaded various images of child sexual abuse material.
On May 2, a search warrant was executed on Madden’s residence, and several evidentiary items were seized.
The warrant was executed by members of the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office’s High-Tech Crimes Unit and Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, the Lower Township Police Department Detectives Division and the Cape May County Sheriff’s Office – K9 Unit.
Madden was charged June 30 with the third-degree crime, which upon conviction can lead to a prison term of three to five years. He is in the Cape May County Correctional Center pending court proceedings.
