Youth arts semester focuses on nature

Autumn is a wonderful time to enjoy the beauty and bounty of the shore. The Center for Community Arts announces its Youth Arts Program fall line up. This semester’s theme is “Nature’s Impact on Art and Culture”. The program is open to all students in grades 5 through 8 and takes place on Saturday nights from 6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. beginning September 13. The program is free and a light supper is provided.
YAP returns to three Lower Cape area locations: Lyle Hall in the Cape May United Methodist Church on Washington St. in Cape May, The Millman Center at 209 Bayshore Rd in Villas, and in Wildwood at Cape Assist, 3819 New Jersey Ave. For more information please call the CCA office at (60p) 884-7525.
The following is brief overview of the September through December programs:September
13 — Mola: Create your own colorful and bold Panamanian design inspired by nature
20 — Peace Tree: String personal messages for peace in painted glass bottles Trees will be placed in public spaces for viewing.
27 — Slump Bowls: Create ceramic bowls using fall foliage

4, 11 & 18 — African Harvest Celebration – African Drumming & Dancing: Learn African dance and drumming as well as African bead making to create costume accessories for dancers using beads, bells and natural materials. This is a collaborative project with Cape May Film Festival and Cape May Lutheran Church culminating in a public event with film and dance in November.
25 — Pumpkin Carving: Design a spooky scene or one from nature (Harvest Celebration: Rehearsal (4 pm to 6pm))
November
1 — Fall Day Trip: Trip to Wheaton Village, “Living Traditions Portrayed: Indian Folk Arts and Crafts”
8 — African Harvest Celebration: Rehearsal (6-7:30pm) and Public Performance (8pm)
15 — Georgia Zoom: Zooming in on the painting style of Georgia O’Keefe
22 — Cookin’ with Culture: Discover foods and natural spices from other cultures.
December
1 — THE GREAT COOKIE EXCHANGE (Monday— 6-8pm)
6 — Mexican Tin Lanterns: Light up the darkness with votive candle holders
