Every once in a while, I meet someone who hasn’t yet heard of the Herald’s On Deck magazine. How, I ask them, have you managed to plan your leisure time without us? How do you choose the perfect restaurant without our Dining Guide? Who informs you about family festivals? Fishing tournaments? $5 pancake breakfasts?
You’ll simply never find as comprehensive a guide to all that Cape May County has to offer unless you pick up On Deck, either inside the Herald on Wednesdays (pull it out and keep it all week), or standing alone on Fridays at local stores, visitor centers, and venues we write about, like the Nature Center of Cape May.
Just page through this week’s issue and see.
Our cover feature is about the first ever Harborfest in Cape May. (Why’d they wait so long to celebrate the sea that surrounds our beautiful peninsula?)
We’ve got the schedule of events, as well as an interview by Carolyn Miller with one of the authors who will read his sea adventure story at the fest this weekend. Also in Cape May, the Washington Street Mall will be rededicated in a lovely ceremony in America’s First Seaside Resort.
Maybe you saw elsewhere that the Marbles Tournament was in Wildwood last weekend. Bet that source never told you that this weekend at Wheaton Village you can see marbles made, check out (and buy) marble memorabilia, and discover, how “green” glassmaking can be.
You may have seen an “Eco-Trolley Tour” listed elsewhere, but our Maureen Cawley writes a first-hand report on what you’ll experience if you go.
Every issue of On Deck is packed with info about outdoor fun, like this week’s two events honoring our favorite reptiles, turtles. And there’s indoor entertainment, too, like the theater, with two local professional companies.
Our local museums will keep you amused, too. Cawley had fun researching her story “Oliver Bright’s Boardwalk Caper” at the George F. Boyer Museum in Wildwood.
So, now that you know you need a copy of On Deck every week, make sure you get yours. If you’re reading this at CapeMayCountyHerald.com, and you can’t find a print edition for your beach bag, e-mail me. I’ll tell you where you can find them (that is, which of the 820 of drop-off points are closest to you).
Don’t waste another day off not knowing what you could be enjoying.
