TUCKAHOE – An employee of Cape May Seashore Lines who fell from a locomotive at the Tuckahoe Train Station Nov. 27 succumbed to his injuries later that day, according to a report in The Press of Atlantic City.
David J. Gairo, 71, of North Cape May, was working on the locomotive when he fell about 10 feet and struck his head. He was flown to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center, City Division, where he later died, the report said.
Woodbine State Police told The Press of Atlantic City they had wrapped up the investigation, concluding it was an accident.
Gairo was born in Philadelphia, Pa., and served in the U.S. Marine Corp Reserves, according to his obituary. He had been president of the East Penn Trolley Association.
He worked for Unisys in Blue Bell, Pa., for 30 years as a systems analyst.
He is predeceased by his mother and step-father Anthony and Evelyn Seagrave, and sister Kathleen Carlin.
Gairo is survived by his family including his wife of 49 years, Ann Gairo (nee Pomposello), two sons, Anthony and Neil Gairo, sister Karen McGlynn, brother John Seagrave, step-brother Ryan Seagrave and step-sister, Jamie Seagrave.
Funeral services are scheduled for Dec. 5 at 10 a.m. in St. John Of God Church, Townbank Road.
