WILDWOOD – During the month of August 2015, the Wildwood Police Department concluded a three month-long program in conjunction with the Division of Alcohol Beverage Enforcement Bureau. The program was funded by the State of New Jersey and is commonly identified as the “Cops in Shops Summer Shore Initiative.” The program allocates funding for undercover and uniform police officers to conduct covert initiatives at cooperative plenary retail alcohol distribution licenses (liquor stores) in the City of Wildwood.
This particular program is a direct deterrent for underage minors entering license liquor premises in order to purchase alcoholic beverages. Additionally this program utilizes exterior surveillance in order to monitor the underage minors in using adults to purchase alcohol. As a result of the 2015 Cops In Shops Summer Initiative, this agency arrested forty six individuals identified as violating New Jersey State Statues, which include; minors entering a licensed retail liquor premises with the purpose of obtaining alcohol, adults purchasing alcoholic beverages for minors and minors utilizing false identification in order to purchase alcoholic beverages.
This program has been an extremely successful initiative and this agency has been recognized as one of the lead municipalities in the Cops In Shops Summer Shore Initiative in the deterrence of underage minors attempting to obtain alcoholic beverages from liquor stores.
